C5 S1 Central Locking

Post by birksy »

My CL is playing up at the mo.

Nothing I can't live with but on unlocking there is a 1-2 second delay before the car will lock itself. Sometimes it locks the car up on closing the door and getting out (not left keys in yet.)

Sometimes when it's not doing that it will lock itself on driving away.

Wet weather seems to be an issue as it's worse in the damp.

Aside from moving away from the Manchester area anyone got any ideas?

Or has anyone else had this?

So when you unlock the car, it locks again even if you have opened the door? That could be a problem with the door switch, not telling the car the door has been opened.

Have you had a close look at your key to make sure the lock button is not pushed in and stuck in a bit? A common thing on the S1 keys as they have very rubbery buttons which do stick in, especially the small button to work the windows.

Spot on with the key.

I swapped fobs and its not happened again.

I prised the fob apart and the circuit board is loose, held in place by the casing. No pegs, no screws, just loose. I'm surprised at the lax approach.

Good to hear you have the problem sorted out. Simple easy fixes are always the best!

Ive not needed to pull a C5 key apart yet, so im not sure what they are like inside.

Spoke too soon. The car is now locking with the other fob and its all over the place. Locks when you shut the door on exit or locks as your driving (*this appears random) or just works as normal. Padlock lights up on each occasion and indicators light up.

Is this all controlled through the BSI? I had a 406 previously (to Mondeo) which developed Alzheimers as it forgot to put the cooling fans on now and again. A faulty earth screwed the BSI following a new clutch.

Or could it be a loose wire/connection? The 406 had a loose plug under the drivers seat that caused an airbag light to come on.

I'm waiting for the day I get locked out with the engine running. (I did it once with an LDV slide door van.)
