Is it a NA or Turbo? NA is easier. Access is the worst bit - although a Lucas pumped NA is not bad, compared to a Bosch pumped Turbo. You only need a deep offset 12mm cranked ring spanner. And 5 joints in each finger  Details of the job on a Xantia TD here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=20675

Go carefully if the plugs feel tight once they are 'cracked' - I ripped a lump off the head on my sister's ZX D  fortunately there was enough left to grip the plug, and a repair was effected with chemical metal!

as Richards says a 12mm cranked spanner, also an 8mm spanner, and i also use a long 1/4 drive extention with an 8mm socket and a deep 3/8th drive 12mm socket on the two plugs at the gear box end,
