cooling fans not working with Air con xantia hdi Xreg

Post by Steelroofgreen »

hi when switching on A/C stop light on dash lights and temp warning light on the temp gauge flashes also I am aware that the fans should run constantly when a/c is on and this does not happen have cleaned and replaced the relays that sit between the two cooling fans, and replaced the temp sensor (blue) that sits near the thermostat housing, the fans run when the car is left to idle so am lost as to why the fans wont work, does any one know the best diagnostic tool to buy to analyse these faults as a look on ebay reveals too much choice !

many thanks for this very useful wiring diagram, I have found the right hand side fan (as you sit in the car) to be intermittent /sluggish, after testing the wiring with a multimeter using your diagram the problem now is how to move the a/c evaporator, from in front of the fan as there is no instructions on how to do so in the haynes manual (unimpressed ) I have noticed if I waggle the fan blade it sometimes jolts it into life and it works for a little while

It looks like that fan has worn brushes.

There’s not supposed to be anything in front of the fans.
Radiators and things are behind them, meaning on the engine side.
The fan motors come out through the front.

We have this related topic going just now:

yes ok I suppose it depends which way you look at it : fan then a/c rad then main rad, , however took a hammer to the body and spindle of the fan motor, gently, proportionally and equally round the body and spindle (after removing the fan blade itself of course ) and this has given it a new lease of life (albeit temporary I suspect ) light on dash extinguished, right fan now stops before left fan on shutdown (a/c off on dash) indicating , I hope a better contact with the brushes

Thaaat’s it ! Good job ! :D

You have ‘reseated’ the brushes and they may be good for months.
Keep watching the fan’s stopping time as a guide to the state of the brushes.
