cigarette lighter socket

my cigarette lighter socket on my xsara has just stopped working check fuse which is ok any ideas what else i can check? i use it to charge up mobile phone

Its always worth checking to see if the wires on the back of the lighter are still connected. They are quite prone to falling off due to the pushing and pulling on the socket when connecting etc.

Mobile phone chargers can cause problems with car power supplies when they are fitted - often depends on whether the socket is live all the time as plugging the charger in can cause a short if it's not pushed in straight.
Is the charger still working in other cars?
I found this problem with an old VW - had to replace the charger in the end for one that didn't seem to suffer the same design problem.
