Xantia Heater Controls

Post by i3 »

Hey all,
have a problem with the heater controls on the xantia: they don't light up, at all. Now, the heater controls have actually been replaced, as the previous unit was faulty, the lever on the heater blower direction selector had snapped off, leaving the direction stuck at the far left on face only.
Assumed the problem with lights was probably blown bulbs, but as the entire unit has now been changed and there is still no lighting at all on the control unit, am thinking it may be another fault.
There appears to be no mention in the handbook of a fuse for the lighting of the heater controls.
Any ideas? Any help appreciated, as it can be bit difficult to operate in the dark.
Thanks

It has to be bulbs or bulb holder, as its the same cuircut as illumination for switches and instruments....

… meaning that if the illumination for the switches and instruments doesn’t work either, it’s then the dimmer button under the steering wheel shroud that’s turned down or disconnected.

have turned the dimmer button under the steering wheel up fully and it functioned as it should, brightening the lighting on dash and clock...
the window switches, interior lights etc all function fine...
originally thought bulbs, but after changing the entire actual unit, thought it unlikely to be bulbs gone on both units...?
so how exactly are the bulbs replaced?

The holder is removable - fiddley but removable...

Pop the black top off the panel, after radio removal, and you will see the wire going to the bulb holder, its a fiddle to get the lower bulb out past the roatry wheel, but possible... you will see when you get the top off..

If you have simply swapped the whole thing its quite likely the bulbs could be blown in the replacment heater panel.

Hi there,
I changed the heater control bulbs in my xantia not long ago (only one blown but changed both) and didn,t have too much trouble once the radio was out, it is indeed a bit fiddly to get bulb holder out (not too bad though) maybe i,ve got small fingers!!!

Adjust the sliders so the cogs aren't in the way and it gives you enough space
