Could someone please let me know the size of the sump plug copper sealing washer on a 1.9 TD DHX engine type.Many thanks.

It's the smaller of the two sold by Halfrauds for Citroen/Peugeot vehicles.

I'm not sure of the size exactly. I normally buy both as the V6 uses the other size...

There is someone selling these on ebay at quite a reasonable price, I bought 20 only to find that the other cars use a different size, so I've got 10 of those now as well - these are all on XMs too.

i think the two diferent sized PSA sump plug washers are 16 and 14mm,

Good to know Malcolm.
I changed my oil last week and there was no washer :shock: *

Can't remember if it was there last time but must get some more.
I don't know about the thread but the head was 21mm same as my son's 306.
Luckily I had bought a socket to do his with a year ago.

*had to refit it without as no option to buy a new one and needed the car. At least it isn't leaking.

Change over year for washer is about 93 / L reg. I know as they try to give me the wrong one half the time.

It is sometimes difficult to tell though by just looking at a washer if its the right one or not unless you have both to compare.

Alloy sumps are nearly always the later (smaller) ones but not sure about the V6's.

Hi,

Missing sump plug washer- Take care it may still be there!

On the C5 HDi the old washer is often lodged/pressed firmly in the recess in the sump and does not come out with the plug.

You need to fish it out with a sharp implement or small screw driver.

I did have a feel around for it but couldn't get too close. I had just raised the car on the suspension to access the sump plug.
Thought I must have dropped it into the hot oil but ran it through a small funnel and there was nothing there so it could well be still clagged to the sump.
Next service will be September and warmer/drier (maybe) so should get a good look. Just prior to MOT so it will be getting a good check over anyway.

Never had metal sump plug washers leak, so re-use them as they are, never turning them around.
The Xantia plug lasted the 12 years that I had the car, with two oil changes per year.
The C5’s had two oil changes in my time, with the one washer.

There's different types though aren't there...

The two sizes of crushable copper ones typically fitted to XU / DW10 (almost the same as the transmission ones) are meant to be replaced each time. Usually they put one in the filter box if you get a main dealer filter.

The TU ones with the rubber insert are re-usable although I do tend to turn them around then change them next time.

The DW8 has a solid copper washer. Not too sure if these are re-usable or not although given its not crushable if its not leaking it should be OK...

I've had pretty well the same experience, the only ones I have had to replace are those that have been done up ridiculously tight by previous owners/garages, but I keep a few in stock - just in case.

Just done my TD's oil change today - steel sump - 14mm sump washer. Renew it every time, as once in the past re-used the sump washer on BX DTR, and it leaked!

I must admit, just like you Martin, I always replace the washer as a matter of course. False economy and a risk of a mucky driveway otherwise.

Changed oil + filter (Xantia 90Hdi) at the weekend.

I re-used the rubber/copper washer, but in addition wrapped just enough ptfe tape to go round the plug thread once, keeping it back awayfrom the start of the thread.

It beats me how oil filters tighten themselves between fitting and removing. I only tighten by hand, making sure there is no leak; despite this, when I remove it I invariably have to use a chain. And with attitude!

Seems to be normal.

At least you have reasonable room. The 206 2.0HDi is very bad for room between the radiator and the filter as you remove it.

Mine (205) is even worse as its vertical so there's no space at all :( , the last one would not come off with either a strap or chain wrench so I ended up with my big grips and squashed it into a square at the top to facilitate its removal with a chain strap ;)
