Citroen Xantia pwner would like CD Changer

Post by Mdon »

Hi,

As I have said in another thread, I have recently bought a Xantia to be my work horse and because over the next 4 or 5 months I'm going to be doing some rather high milage I would like to play CD's. My car is a 2000 X reg and has a tape deck in at the mintue. I would like to add a CD changer to the factory head unit as I like using the 8 buttons on the steering wheel. Does anyone know what model of changer I will need or will I be able to use any changer unit and just have a play with the wires?

Cheers

Mike.

Hi you have a dillemma

As you have a Tape Deck it is a Phillips unit. The CD Changer unit and headunit are Clarion.

The difference is the Steering Control Plug that goes in the back of the Radios are different to each other!!

The actual readios Will fit, you'll need to remove the Fold down flap aswell.

You can fit the Clarion "Dash Fit" radio but the radio controls wont fit.

How ever if you already have the Clarion Head unit (No fold down flap on the front of it) you nly need to add the CD changer and lead.

Paul

You will need THIS

Also One of these

And also This WITH the CABLE

However, there is also a Single Slot CD Head unit you can get with the fold down front, but Im not sure what the connection for the Steering controls are on that one.

I have the fold down flap on the dash so I take it I must have the phillips unit?

Can I not buy a phillips changer? the audio hand book shows a picture of my radio and says the SRC (I think, don't have the book to hand at the min) button is to switch between Radio, Tape and CD?

If poss I would like to keep the fold down flap thing. Don't ask me why but I just think it's soo cool! (I know small things, Small minds! :) )

Im guessing then you need the Single Slot CD player with the folding flap, Not sure if these will power a Phillips CD changer unit though...

The modes will be CD RADIO on the SRC button.

Hi,
Why not just buy a CD player for the car. Only difference is you have to change a disk after each playing, hardly effort consuming. Plus you can use the fold down flap to hide the player from view. A lot of players can play MP3 files, so I make up my own music disks. These can last up to 10 hours , with 228 MP3 tracks on a single CD. A Sony or JVC unit will not cost much more than £50.
The CD player in my Hyundia Acent MVi will ONLY play shop bought CD's, which for me is no good. When I eventually get it on the road, I will get a new player for it, and keep the original to replace it when I sell the car.
Greg

Ps. I never bother with the steering wheel controls- again, no effort to adjust the player as required. :)

I've contacted a guy from ebay who is selling both head unit and changer.

I never really modify cars, if I do I always like to fit standard manufactures equipment prehaps just from a higher model. Wierd I know but I like everything working and with original parts.
