Smelly alternator ?

Hi guys,

Cant say as ive noticed before but started the car today and it started and ran fine, i did get a whiff of an electrical burning type smell so popped the bonnet and although no smoke or excessive heat, the alternator ive noticed is producing this smell....

Thoughts?

Well just been out in the car for a good while and everything seems fine...smell is gone

Probably just that the alternator was on heavy load for a while (e.g. low battery voltage and lights / HRW etc on).
