How to set handbrake?

Hi I have a citroen xsara 1999 1.4i hatchback.

The handbrake is a little bit loose when it's down. how can I arrange this?

do you mean the cable have need adjusting up a bit,

if so isnt there an adjuster under the centre consul at the back end of the hand brake lever,
