C5 engine vibrating ?

Post by johntom »

Hi
I have a 2004 C5 hdi estate (79k) which has started to vibrate at start up and at junctions etc.
When started this morning the car could be felt shuddering at tickover, when I raised the revs to 1000rpm it seamed to smooth out. When I looked under the bonnet the engine appeared to be moving back and forth? This juddering can be felt sometimes at junctions but not all the time?
Any ideas out there, not sure if it's fuel/injector system related and thats making the engine run rough and vibrate, or if its more mechanical ie engine mounts etc?

Your on the right tracks I think, it could be engine mountings, but its probably an injector amiss.

Hi
would the engine mounts smooth out above 1000rpm and how do i check them?
Also, could I do any harm unpluging an injector while the engine is running to see if it makes any difference, (ie no difference means it's not working) ?

If one injector was not working the engine would be trying to jump out of the car, you need to get quite a few revs on to make sure it doesn't stall and then the fault has probably cleared, I think you will have to bite the bullet and get the codes read.

Most likely a dirty injector which will affect leak back and fuel rail pressure which results in a rough tickover.

Put some injector cleaner in the system and it'll probably improve.
