D, great pics. What are you drilling out in the first pic? Some sort of pin? If I just replace the end seal do I need to hold the regulator in the vice to stop the spring springing?

Thanks gents

I took the pictures of this as i intend to do a how to style writeup but have never got round to it. The reason i intended to do a how to is because of the huge pressure loss that i found with both of my units i re tuned, the Activa being N reg with 133k has seen a fair whack of use but its not really even average miles, despite this the maximum pressure it was producing wasnt even the minimum spec quoted by citroen, the XM's regulator was maybe 4 years old but could only muster 145bar, within spec but nowhere near the 170bar it should have.
while this didnt cause a specific problem it does affect the feel of the steering, brakes, in fact the whole car feels far more fluid and, (new i guess) with it putting out the correct pressure.

Jaf,
what i did was just drill through the casing into the back of the big circlip you can see in photo 2, purely so i can push it out, the vice is there to push the plug in so the circlip can be removed, then again with the vice the spring tension can be released in a controlled manner whilst extracting the plug.

I have also just discovered that Plaeides, or pleaides...............Martin  sells a nice little pressure test kit for just such a job too, after sourcing mine i have to say it is one of the best tools i own as far as diognostics go.

Right so I've been to Citroen. The guy who normally drives the computer wasn't there so the mechanic tried to find the seal. Failed. Then he said they wouldn't have the seal in stock so would have to order it even if he knew the part number. So I asked to buy 5 litres of LHM fluid and they only sell 1 litre! Had to go to the spares place. Anyway topped up the level and will hope for the best for the 440kms trip to the airport tomorrow. Will sort it all out after that.

Part number for that O-ring should be as :

96 157 736 --- Hydraulic Oil O-Ring Seal --- 29 x 2.7 (29 x 3.0 would be fine as well)

You can also ask/buy according to the dimensions, from another place.
Then make sure it is LHM compliant, material NBR (?).

Edit: O-Ring material NBR, hardness 90 :)

Thanks for the part number VertVega. I'll get off to Citroen on Monday (I'm just not good enough at Spanish over the telephone, have to go there in person).

Made it to the airport and back fine, used up half a litre of LHM. It was 500kms in the end.

However Fred's developed a new problem. Parked her last night and this morning her bum was on the floor! Started her up and she raised up properly. My guess would be the anti-sink sphere's gone as I've replaced all four corner spheres and have bought a front accumulator sphere to replace the old one when I change the pressure regulator seal.

Anyone confirm or suggest something else please?

Many thanks, Jaf

Well got this seal this afternoon. They had it in stock. Guy was well trained in the old "it'll cost you" expression. 7 euros!

Think I'll have a go a changing it tomorrow (was going to wait until I get a new anti-sink sphere as well but I don't like leaving leaks).

Thanks all, be back no doubt soon saying help!

Right well it's fixed...sort of. Thought I had the whole thing unbolted but found a pipe at the top that I just couldn't get to. Got a bit cross. Decided to bodge it by putting a seal on the end plate. It's been a week now and the seal's held up ok. I am always a bit wary of not doing it properly so I will get the pressure regulator done when I've a couple of days free.

Also I changed the accumulator sphere today with the help of a tool a friend made for me. Fantastic to have the reassurance that the brakes now work with the engine off (I didn't get a single go of the brakes before). Incidentally there was very, very little LHM leakage out of the old sphere. I thought I read that blown spheres tend to blow out more LHM than good(ish) ones? Certainly the front spheres gave me a nice shower.

If the membrane was ruptured or the nitrogen almost depleted (same thing really) then there would be nothing to push the LHM out.

I dont think it matters Paul, they dont do them anymore, i found the parts diagram but there were no parts listed on it, this is on the dealer computer.
I have been using normal o rings from a big tray bought off ebay recently, only have to be minera oil compatable nothing special.
The one i put in my hydractive valve is still going strong so are the 3 i put in a jar of LHM.

Here you go Paul cheaper than anything you will find at the dealer and always to hand
Having said that my set didnt have a seal that would fit the bottom plug of the reguylator as that is rather chunky but there are ones that can be used in place of the one used on the plastic return housing, the original i flat like a sphere seal but an o ring works a treat, especialy when you cant get the original and you have a leak.

Apparently they have moved up the road from the address given on the website, to:

"Pleiades has just moved not closed down.
The new address is UNIT 12A BROOKSIDE IND.EST.PE28 5SB "
Still in Sawtree
Is this correct?
