Camshaft seal

Post by Martin Beevers »

Hi all,
I have had an oil leak for a little while now, steadily getting worse by the day.
Anyhow, I had a suspision it was coming from the camshaft seal. So today I took the top cambelt cover off to have a look. My suspisions were confirmed when I noticed the seal sitting about a quater of an inch proud of the camshaft cover. I pushed the seal back home and noticed that it wasn't a tight fit. So it looks like I will have to strip her down and replace said seal...

While I strip to replace the seal and contaminated cambelt, is there anything else I should be looking to replace?

I replaced the water pump, cambelt tensioner and idler wheel about 9K ago.

Thanks Martin

The crankshaft seal is the obvious one to me.

Funny you say that, as the main stealer sold me this 1 by mistake...

So I will fit it at the same time.

Cheers

Pop a rocker gasket on too... as you have or should have the rocker off..

I say this, because you may well find the Orface for the New cam seal may be a little too tight, and you may need to undo the No.3 Cam shaft cap to slip it in - I do this with practice anyway, so I do NOT damage the outside edge of the seal when trying to press it in... On the other had with the old seal being too loose, t he cap Could have come loose....
