Anyone changed the timing belt on a 2.0 litre HDI Picasso

Post by steviewonder7 »

As per title.I ask as come spring I wish to have a go at renewing the timing belt and associated bits,but.....is it a viable option to do it yourself as I've noticed that side of the engine is dam close to that inner wing. There dont seem to be much space to swing a spanner.I've renewed the timing belt on my old Xantia 1.9TD,but there was slightly more room.
Would i need to drop the engine at all etc etc.Anyone had any experiance on doing one of these and if so what sort of job was it to carry out?

Thanks in advance to your replies

Ive done Pleanty of 2.oi HDi's in the Xantia.

On the Tight for Space issue, Ive recently done a cam belt and Aux belt on a Peugeot 306 TD, and they are damm close to the chassis... I had to turn the aux belt on its side to get it past the crank pullly.

No boudt when you have the Aux belt and crank pully off there Will be pleanty of spce to fit the belt and WATER PUMP...

The actual procedire is extreamily simmilar to the XUD, the crank is still locked in the fly wheel. Theres NO NEED to lock the Engine fuel pump, it is Not timed... just the Cam is locked, but the lock position IS different to the XUD, its nearer 7 o clock....

Info on the HDi cam belt in the Xantia here: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=33939

It'll be tight on the Pic I guess, but with some engine up / down should be do-able. You may well need a friend to help with the tensioning when the time comes, as it was awkward on the Xantia, doubly so on the Pic I guess.[/url]

Thanks for your replies chaps...I'll look into it a bit more and maybe line up a few days when I'm off to have a bash at it.I dont fancy paying the garages their typical 300 to 500 pounds sterling to do said job.
