Water in rear footwells

Post by lesliebear »

Hi Can anyone point me to a section regarding water in the rear footwells on a Xantia Estate or was this an added extra. Didn't mention footspa in the owners handbook. Tried searching forums but can't find anything.

Most likey the membane in the tailgate has let go and is letting water in. If you lift the carpet in the corner in the boot you will probably find it is sopping underneath. Fixing it is a matter of taking the boot liner off, then resealing the plastic liner underneath. Mine is clagged together (not prettily!) with a load of silicone sealant, but others have done a better job with the mastic on a roll that you can get from caravan dealers. VertVega covers it in his post about the rear window wiper repair: http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... hp?t=32120

Incentive to repair? I'd call that foot-spa chutzpah.

Have driven mine a few weeks in varying weather (including heavy rain) with no tailgate weatherstrip and the rear footwells are dry.

If you have a sunroof check the drains at the rear wheel arch are not blocked that,s what happened to mine.

I had two times rear footwells full of water, both times it was the rear right side

- First time it was the tailgate membrane lower part leaking
- Second time it was the sealant over the rear door

Membrane leak has been going on secretly for a long time, since it almost spoiled the carpet completely.
The soft material (like sponge) under the carpet was wet and started giving unpleasant smell.
Some traces of mould were seen.

Finding sealant leak was much more difficult and I had to remove rear seats, pillar trims and etc.
to see the route of the water coming in

These are my experiences and I'm glad that they're just memories now
