Hi all,
Picked up a X (2000) HDI today - in lovely condition & smooth runner.
The interior lights only appear to illuminate when the passenger door is open not the drivers door - could there be a switch in the inside of the door that might need replacing?
Also the single DIN factory fit Clarion radio I wish to replace - there appears to be two holes at the top of the set - is this for a removal tool? Any ideas of the best way to tease these units out without damaging any of the dash.
Regards
Scott

Does the offside one light up when a nearside door is opened?
Both lights on both pillars illuminate - but only when the passenger door is opened. The red "doors open" icon also lights on the dash - but again only for the passenger, not the drivers door

OK. The door locks have a contact switch in them which sends the appropriate signal to your car's body computer. This commands operation of the lights. Sounds as though continuity has been lost between the door lock insides and the "CPH".
Most likely fault area is where the wires flex inside that rubber conduit at the forward end of your door jamb. Their insulation hardens - especially in winter - and it causes the copper to fatigue and break.
