Citroen Picasso Xsara 2.0 Hdi

Post by toontaxis »

Hi we currently have a sick Picasso - when we put it on a diagnostic kit it is reporting low compression on cylinder 4 - the one nearest the gearbox.
We started by replacing a faulty injector and have now replaced all four injectors - however this has not cured the problem :(

Wondered whether anyone else had encountered similar problems and if so how they fixed it ?

Any help or advice would be appreciated, please.

I would suggest checking the glow plugs, there could be a leak via that - only cyl 4 needs checking of course (initially anyway).

A blow-down test should reveal if there is a leak - the diagnostic machine could be being misled by another fault.

Which diagnostic computer was used?

You probably already know this but just in case, PSA engines are numbered back to front compared with other manufacturers.

Whats the actual fault with the car ? non starter ? misfire ? lacking power ? excessive smoke from exhaust ?
Have you done a compression test on it ??

If the injector isn't leaking, then it's got to be
- leaking glow plug, as myglaren says
- a sticking/pitted/bent valve
- worn or broken piston rings

or if these engines have hydraulic lifters/tappets one could be sticking,

check valve clearances
