Xantia MOT
Hi,
I was suprised yesterday as my Xantia HDI passed it's MOT.
The guy mentioned that the car was spotless and a pleasure to work on.
The smoke test result was 0.5 however, I had changed the fuel filter and put a few litres of bio diesel in.
Result. just have to sort out my fuel guage and possibly change the glow plugs..
Regards,
Howie

Congratulations, always nice when it passes unexpectedly. Better than the converse
I find that a good run just before the MOT works wonders for the emissions tests. We usually run the 306 D-Turbo down to Scotch Corner and back, 80 mile round trip, then sling it in for the test.
Flies through.
We do service it a couple of days before too, which doesn't hurt even if it does no good.

Funny you should say that as I took the car through the car wash and had the underside done also. Mine was the same as yours before.Peter.N. wrote:Well done howie
Your tester wouldn't like mine much, they are undersealed with cow slurry and mud.
Peter
I was not sure if this was a good idea as mud and muck hides things, mind it payed off.

Well done Howie!
Congratulations Howie - my Xantia estate has also joined the ranks of sailing through an MOT recently. I always dread the event - previous years have resulted in work and money being spent.
Interesting that the tester rang to say the car was ready but didn't give me the good news until prompted.
Anyway - perhaps we should start an MOT story board!
Here we go for another 12 months - Happy New Year.

Sore point for me at the moment...NAM wrote:

My Activa failed on a leak in the rear Activa ram and the front suspension sphere. It had failed on a big LHM leak a the front but the Activa rams were fine but after having the big leak fixed the rear ram suddenly developed a leak.
So, how easy is it to swap a rear Activa ram?
Re: Well done Howie!
Mine failed on the same last month. I printed off the leaky activa ram repair thread from the stickies section and the garage were very impressed. So was I with a potential repair bill of £400+ coming in at just £30.zz9 wrote:

Ummm, have a look at this guide...zz9 wrote: So, how easy is it to swap a rear Activa ram?
And then an alternative method of repair is described here...
It's fiddly more than difficult and the most important thing is to have the right tools, especially good hex flare nut spanners...
Corrosion on the front pipe unions and balljoint nuts can be an issue...

What garage? If it's in Kent it might not be too far away from me.genius149 wrote:Mine failed on the same last month. I'd read those, but I doubt I'm that mechanically minded, plus I have work and at the moment a huge cold. But I really do not want to give up on my Activa.CitroJim wrote:Ummm, have a look at this guide...zz9 wrote: So, how easy is it to swap a rear Activa ram?

Re: Well done Howie!
If you're in Essex, it's about as far in Kent as you could go! It's AC motors in Broadstairs tel. 01843 860606. One of their ex mechanics was an activa fanatic until he moved to Scotland, so they've plenty of experience.zz9 wrote:What garage?
