Questions for Lexia 3 users
I'm thinking of getting myself a chinese clone Lexia 3. The kits are variously described as including CD/DVD for the software. I have a likely contender for the laptop, being an old Windows 2000 machine, but without a DVD drive, only CD. I can install the software from a network drive but what I really would like to know is if the software requires access to the CD/DVD while it is in use or is it only required for installation?
Another possible contender is an XP netbook, 10in screen, but again no external drive. I have read somewhere, I seem to recall, that the software does not resize itself to work correctly on a small screen size. Anyone any experience of this?
Thanks
John

I'm sure I've had issues with dodgy disks / drives, and have installed from an SD card before now. So it doesnt require CD/DVD access in use, unless you try to access additional info CDs (which may be available on the interweb..)
I'm not sure what screen resolution it uses, but I'd guess 1024 x 768.

Re: Questions for Lexia 3 users
I run Lexia 3.4 on an old Compaq Armada ~(Pentium 3) running Windows 2000, runs fine. This machine has a DVD drive and as I write I am not sure if the installation disk was a CD or DVD . Once installed the software does not access the drive again for normal diagnostic work.deuchebleu wrote:I'm thinking of getting myself a chinese clone Lexia 3. HOWEVER if you are using an earlier version of software 3.2 I think, it is possible to display schematics this will ask you to insert a CD in the drive which contains the schematics. On later versions of Lexia this function was inhibited and increasingly this functionality plus other things relies on Web Access to big brother back in Citroen for which of course you need an account.
Screens assume a res of 800 X 600.

Its NOT an original Disk, its a copy with the version hand written on the disk.
I got both Lexia and Planet Peugeot with mine, IIRC they were CDR's, and both work perfectly. I use a Toshiba Portege, running Win XP. I also had it on a Dell Lattitude D505 with XP.

Lexia transfer to USB
Some Chinese makers provide the software as downloaded from an FTP site. All you need is a Internet connection, free FTP SW like" filezilla" and a bout 3 GB of disk space.
Or - on another PC/Mac just copy the CD contents or as an image to a USB stick.
Failing that connect old laptop to your home network and transfer over network (will take maybe 40 mins). Or if you can't do that connect both PC's with a "cross-over" ethernet cable to create a private network between them. Make the CD drive "shareable" and it should appear on the old laptop under "network".
If this is all nonsense to you - send me the CD and a USB stick and I'll do it for you - no trouble.

All the above shows that not all Lexia's are created equal
4.5 is a lot newer than say 3.4 and it is quite conceivable that the hardware / software requirements are different between the two.
The OP asked about Lexia 3 not 4.
Lexia 3 will run quite happily on W2000 and I believe 98 but don't quote me on that one, with a screen res of 800X600, will of course run quite happily on 1024X768 it just scales the screens accordingly.
Would suspect that the current crop of clones are L4.
Personally if working on an older car I would prefer 3.2 with a full disk set as this would I believe give better functionality without having to talk to big brother.
There is a section on service.Citroen.com regarding evolution of Lexia which will give you a flavour of the changes that have occurred.

Thats good to know Haraldg, thanks but I will leave as is I think it works fine at 1024x768. Would of been happy to know this if I was not able to alter my screen res.HaraldG wrote:"Change screen resolution on Lexia3:

As an aside to this I bought my Lexia3 from China and I received it within 5 days but it was faulty and my problems began. I contacted the Chinese supplier and after much debate they asked me to return it and they would replace it. Fair enough I thought but the quotes I got from various carriers were between £50.00 and £60.00 pounds, now I paid £130.00 for it initially and I was not prepared to spend this extra money to have it replaced so I contacted China again and they said you can send it to our London office on the Docks so I did at a cost of £5.80 Special Delivery Royal Mail. They then said their London office would send it to China and then off to the Manufacturer for examination and replacement. All this took a total of 5 or 6 weeks and I then received a replacement which works fine but the Labels off it were missing and China were not interested in replacing them so I opened a Ebay dispute, China responded immediately and said they would sen these labels and would I kindly close the dispute, I replied I will close the dispute when I recieve the Labels, 3 weeks later the Labels arrived and I closed the dispute.
There are people on Ebay listing these Lexias and the have a UK address I would consider buying from one of them if I were to buy again. The problem is that if your unit is faulty it takes quite a while and much emailing to get satisfaction, there is at least one other member on here who was supplied with a faulty item
