I've just got a facelift!

Post by Citroenmad »

Yep, i've eventually got a Facelift, of the C5 variety!

Id been considering it for a while, as i much prefer the looks of the MK2 C5 and its added bonuses, bit livelier engine, better drive etc.

Ive been to see a few but none were as good as i thought they would be and they seemed a pointless change from my S1.

However, last week i spotted one at a Vauxhall dealer not too far away which looked very tempting. So i went and had a look today, thinking it would probably be a bit untidy and id not like it.

However its not, it looks like a brand new car, not a mark on it anywhere, its gleaming. It should be, as its mileage is only 12,340 miles!

Its a 2006 56 reg C5 2.0HDi 138bhp 16v VTR Hatchback in blue/silver. 12K miles, one owner, full service history (done every year), long tax and it will come with a years MOT and its going through their workshops so it will be serviced too. It comes with a months warranty with an option to extend to a 12 month warranty for £199, might get that, not sure yet. I got it for an excellent price, given its condition and low mileage im very happy. A little more than i was hoping to spend on a car, but it should last me a long time.

Its the pale blue/silvery colour, possibly not my first choice but it actually looks really nice with the chrome and newer design wheels it has.

I cant believe how fresh it looks, its totally as new, even has its original tyres, which are not perished and still have a lot of life left. Obviously been garaged. It has fitted mudflaps too. I doubt the back seats have even been sat in, and the boot, well that looks unused. Im not going to want to drive it its so nice.

Obviously it has been an occasional long distance car or a second car, it certainly hasnt been used to run to the shops everyday.

I had concerns about the low mileage, as it has a particulate filter, but its driving faultlessly and revs as it should, not in limp home mode. I gave it a really good drive and it is as new, you would never tell its not a new car, totally amasing. Id never of found another one like it, i just had to have it!

So with it going through its MOT and a service ill be collecting it on Friday morning. I can't wait!

Need to get rid of some cars now though, 10 cars is a little too many. Ill be selling my C5 VTR privately, so i need to get that done when this one arrives. So if anyone wants a 04 plate C5 HDi ...

Here are two pictures from the advert, they dont do it any justice:

Better pics will follow on Friday, you know me and pictures!

According to my C5 brochures, this facelift is over 5 inches longer than the original S1 saloon! I knew it was longer, but not by that much. It has a longer and softer front for pedestrians, its also a 5 star crash rated car as opposed to the 4 star of the S1. The back looks a little longer too, but that might just be the styling.

True!

It was advertised for £5890, I managed to get it down to £5325, they wouldn't budge any more than that. I think thats a pretty good price for the car, its a stunner.

But given that im a student and working part time, its as much as I wanted to pay.

Ill have to remember its still running in!

I try to forget about the VolksAudi C5!

Ive heard people call these S2 C5s and the new ones S3s. I tend to call them the facelift, either way, they are an improvement and in a lot of ways better than the Germanic ones, which are saloons (useless for me), most are coil sprung, space is less inside and the 'Tourer' is much smaller than the proper C5 Estate.

More like a long term gift to myself

Ill miss my S1, but this is so much nicer and its the spec i ideally wanted too. I plan to keep this for at least 3 to 4 years, it should be good for that. Aside from a C6, which again is a saloon, its almost my dream car!

Indeed they do, it does pay to be patient and wait for the right car to come along. Thanks Richard :)

Ye Gods that's good!

I paid £500 less for my 2007 56 plate 1.6 VTR and I thought that was a good deal. Mind you, it has a 12 month Citroen warranty with it, but it's done 46K.

The chrome trim looks nice though, doesn't it?

ps: just realised how cool it is the way this forum automatically adds the umlauts to the word Citroen!

...although it's not German so they're probably not umlauts.....??

So no red Activa for Chris then! In defence of the german C5 I've been
very impressed by hattershaun's HDi V6 in polar White - first late C5 I've
really taken the trouble to look over. Probably have one in another 10 years
or so then!! Especially with the Exclusive spheres.

Thats a good price you got yours for, and a warranty too. Im unsure if i should get the years extended warranty for £199 or not, need to find out a bit more about what it covers. Might be a waste of time and money.

The dealer told me that they had priced the car wrongly, they were going to advertise it at £6995!!! Way too much but they said given its mileage its a good price. Probably a load of rubbish, but they are one of the most helpful and friendliest dealers ive used. I think what i paid is realistic.

The chrome trim does look great, there are so many improvements between the S1 and facelifted C5, they are great cars.

Yes, its a bit more than i want to take on at the moment, having this one as well. Which is why i was dithering around about the Activa.

Im not a huge fan of the German C5, it doesnt appear to be a true Citroen, its more about style than substance it would appear. Ive not driven one but i have been in the hydractive version, it was ok, too cramped though.

What are they like?
I have only replaced one sidelight bulb and it was easy but the LEDs sound interesting for that application.
