Xantia Ride

Post by sreid »

Hi
Read with interest the tips on sphere,s etc. Nobody replied on a local indy (can I be so bold to ask what an Indy is ? ) And more importantly who can be recommended as one in the Glasgow area, as I too have some Xantia brake / ride issues And suspect needs a god overhaul but not at a main dealer. Any Indy,s in the Glasgow Area with contact detail please ?
Thanks
Stevie

Well bad weather at the weekend have delayed this again however, things got worse and the stop light and ABS came on solid. I had no option but to try another garage. The wheel bearing on the other side had collapsed.

That has now been replaced and there is now no rumbling or grinding noises anymore.

Driving home tonight and the ABS light flashed on again and the brake pedal went solid. All returned to normal after a hard press of the brake pedal.

Hopefully the weather will be remotely good this weekend and I can get the spheres on and the fluid replaced.

Graham Harper is very good - a proper old school mechanic! Bit difficult to find off Argly Street: http://www.grahamharper.com/index.html

There's also a big Citroen Indy in Rutherglen.

Well, front sphere swapped and hyroflush is now in. Managed to break the chain on the draper chain wrench I had but found a screw on halfords filter remover that did the job. It took a LOT of force to get the old sphere off.

Will leave the hydroflush in for 1500miles and syphon it out (tastes lovely by the way :()

Since the wheel bearings have been swapped I now have the following problem. When the ABS light is on (which is most of the time) the brakes work fine. When the light goes out (for about 5mins then comes back on) the ABS kicks in when I press the brakes.

Thanks for everyones help so far, would never have been able to do this without everyones advice.

Sounds like a problem with one of the ABS sensors. A Lexia should give you more clues. I recall a few post on hear about the ABS cutting in during normal braking, i think DickieG had this issue. Was it not to do with the spacing of the ABS sensor or something?
