I'll get that checked Adam.
Could be the lower ball joints were done with the droplinks.

Car gone again for a while, I have the Rover until tomorrow night then it's back to the 306 for the rest of the week, Rover in for MOT & servicing.

Steve
as Adam says drop links cant cause tyre were/damage,

the only way they could will be if one end came off and aimed itself into said tyre,

lower swivle, arm bush's, strut top mounts or even something bent are the usual culprits for tyre wear,

Got my car back last night, daughter got her Rover back and I took her for it. My lower ball joints were worn/replaced, which explains it nicely.
Been using #2 son's 306, which is quite nice/fun.
Pleased to be back in the C5 now though.

So - I am understanding they were done again this week?

They seem to have a short life at times - especially some pattern ones.

No, first time they have been done since I bought the car.
My daughter has had my car while hers has been in for fettling and MOT/service.

As previously noted, the C5 has been slow to start for the past couple of years, usually just first time each morning but sometimes also in the afternoon when coming home if it hasn't been used all day.
Generally somewhat temperature dependent but not always.

I have been thinking along the lines of a starter motor problem and have as usual procrastinated on actually purchasing one until now.
It always starts although can take 20~30" of cranking, after which it is fine.

Went out today to give the car a good clean, have a funeral to attend in the morning - my youngest grandson's other granddad :(

Cranked away for ages with no result other than lots of error messages and the TrafficMaster woman berating me for letting the license lapse.

It eventually ground to a complete stop.

Pottered around for a bit looking for battery charger, removed battery, put it on charge and the charger did nothing - a new symptom, it has always worked OK in the past.
Dragged out the 'old' Varta battery that has sat for the last six months or so, was charged before being buried.
That seemed to do a bit better but still failed to start it.
Leaving it for a bit to recover and try again. Thought I might as well use the wait to moan about it a bit here.

When the charger failed to show any life apart from buzzing a bit I put the AVO across the battery terminals and got 12.26 volts, more than I expected.
Nothing from the charger - 2~3V fluctuating :( . Looks terminal.

he new battery is a Yuasa Pro. Been OK but TBH no better than the Varta that was originally on the car so at least five years old.

First time it has ever refused to ignite, even in the coldest conditions and it is +9°C at the moment - was much colder last week.

Similar problems on my C5 were cured immediately by replacing the MAF, I bought my replacement off Ebay for about £38

It's had two MAFS - dealer original.
Went back out and it started up OK (still on old battery)
Ran it around for about 30 miles to warm it up thoroughly, gave it a middling sort of clean, ran it around again to dry it off and it seems OK again now.

Must apologise, my response was a bit late, I didn't notice there were six pages in this thread.

Your today's problem might be lack of fuel getting through, drained back to the tank or air leaks in the fuel line.

It may indeed, will have to investigate that. Perhaps why it isn't quite as lively as it should be - but then it never was :)
