Does anyone know if my Xantia would have a pollen filter?
I know these are supposed to be located in the driver's footwell but I cannot find one. Is it forced to have one with having air con?
And if so, is it under a cowl?

The pollen filter is on the front passenger side of the car. Remove the carpet trim panel, the lid covering the filter filter can either be held in by screws or clips. It is difficult to find the first time, as you (like me) are probably expecting to find a large covering panel - not so, because the filter is inserted on it's edge upright. So the panel you are looking for is about 6 inches long, and 2 inches wide. Use a mirror to search around. It is not under the cowel (take you mean the blower. I'm nearly sure it is on the right hand side of the blower. I seem to remember that the lid or cover is held on by 2 sliding clips.

Be careful about the filter orientation, the tapered edge points towards the car door I believe, not upwards as one might initially suspect.
Looking at Clogzz great picture you can just make out the tapered edge on the left.
I've seen 3 Xantias where someone has forcibly inserted the pollen filter tapered edge upwards, which is bad as it no only damages the filter element but leaves a gap for unfiltered air.
Looking at the filter cover you will see where the tapered edge goes.

Gone to the dark side.

Entirely the wrong side of the car!
It just shows it pays to be careful when looking at French Car websites, i.e. Citroen Service, when making assumptions about which side it is on!
I will get this changed today whilst I am rooting around. I bet it is not squeaky clean.
I did not pull the underside panel totally out yesterday as I was looking for the recirculation cable that member "xantia_v6" advised me to check because of faulty sliding actino on recirc slider so I am not entirely surprised that I didn't find the pollen filter on that side.
Had I have known how large it was, I would have worked out that it couldn't have been in the driver footwell had I have also known that it is definitely on all cars with A/C!

Thanks Guys!
Well. I've been for a quick spin around tonight and have caused another problem doing the pollen filter.
The Temperature Slider now doesn't want to go lower than 22 degrees. The recirc slider seems to be smoother but needs a bit of force to get it completely over to the left with about 1cm to go.
Just wondering if the other cable in the passenger footwell is for the temp slider or indeed if I have somehow caught the recirc cable on the temp slider cog!
I would hate for the temp control to fail on our long journey. It seems a little too toasty at 22 degrees!
Any last thoughts before we head for the Continent?

The temperature slider has no cable but a potentiometer turning around 270°.
The pot is driven with a spindle from the cog meshed in the slider.
If there’s misalignment, the slider won’t go the full course.
The recirculation cable goes to the right and attaches in the top right of the panel, where you can clearly see the slider turn the cog.
If it doesn’t reach an end, the sheath may need clamping closer to that end.
The two other cables go to the left and attach to the two airflow cogs at the top left of the panel.
Can’t remember without seeing which one goes to the top cog, but it’s like the first part of the slider course operates one cable, then the rest of the slider run operates both cables.
