towbar question

Post by naffa »

Hi does anyone know if the towbar from a Peugeot 806 will fit my Citroen Synergie? I understand many parts are interchangable.

Also got the same question regarding roofbars being used on the same vehicles?

Thanks Nathan

I would think yes and yes
as far as I understand the differences between the vehicles are purely cosmetic

Yes, i cant see you having a problem there.

The cars are virtually identical in everything other than the badge they wear.

Bike makes good sense, but isn't it harsh to put your lad on the towbar? Especially in this weather...

Is it an estate Boris? I find Towequipe the cheapest for towbars. The site isn't the best but I've bought from them a few times.

That comes with the basic socket and cable, but nothing to protect the car's electronics. You can't just tap into the rear light wiring like we used to, you will have to use the vehicle-specific wiring kit or at least the bypass relay.

There are different C5 towbars listed under all three spellings of Citroen and the wiring kit varies in price so have a good look around. Remember that towball and electrics are extra unless they say they're included.

on the old synergie and 806 there are no electronics for the lights
it's all old fashioned style switches and bulbs
you can just T into the existing circuits

I'm guessing that a C5 will need an isolation box though like my 607

Well I bought the towbar for my 1998 Synergie and I need to get it fitted. I'm hoping to do this myself but I have a couple of questions such as 'will I need to cut the bumper and does anyone know the length and diameter bolts I'll need'?

Thanks Nathan

Im miles away too, but is this for a hatch or estate?

Ive had two towbars fitted to C5s now, both S1 Hatchbacks have one to take our bike rack. I paid £150 fitted, ony one electric socket, but the second can be added.

I hate the look of towbars, so i doubt ill fit one to my current C5, but if it were a detachable one i might. However Citroen want over £300 for one!

If it's a new towbar then it should have instructions and all the bolts included.
If it's used then I think you should find out who made it and get the instructions.
I have never had trouble getting instructions. I usually ring up the manufacturer and ask to speak to tech support. Then I say to them I am thinking of buying their towbar but would like to see the instructions first so I know what's involved before I decide to buy it.
Normally they will send me the instructions (never failed yet).
be careful about bolts. The loading is extremely high on towbar bolts and you need to make sure that the correct ones are used including any load spreading plates/washers.
If you get it wrong and have an accident then the A frame of your trailer could come right through the tailgate (it's only plastic on these) and injure your passengers.

Its for a Hatch.
I have the instructions. Made by Bosal. Looks hardly used (still paint on the ball if I remember correctly)
The detachable bit forms a swan neck, and once it was off I doubt if you'd know there was one fitted...except for the electrics!

PM if interested!

Thats pretty much what I guess it would look like on a car (mines an S1 so it didnt fit).
Probably academic, as Chris is in the NE and I'm in the SW!
Not planning on travelling up that way any time in the near future..although I do have rellies in Newcastle.
