Not sure of the mechanics of the pressure pump for the suspension.
Is the pump engine-driven or is it electrical?
Sorry for such a dumb question.

'cos I had the thought that may be the droning noise that's coming on more and more often might be the pump.
My car is a 90Hdi.
The noise is constant pitch, like a droneing hum, has been diagnosed as fuel filter related (this has now been dismissed). It's driving me crazy, I can't afford anything major to go wrong and hope to nip this in the bud before it develops into a big one.
Several of you must be fed up of reading about this, but it really is so annoying and frustrating.

Could it be the cooling fans (in front of the radiators)? They shouldn't come on except when the car is stationary or slow moving. But, if the thermostat is getting tired (not opening fully and restricting the water flow), the fans will come on more frequently and you're on borrowed time. Our S1 1.9TD estate had this problem - the thermostat was very easy to change, but I know nothing about the HDi.
Can you relate the drone to your car working hard and/or moving slowly?
On my , once it's really up to temperature, the cooling fans will come on if the car is (near) stationary for several minutes - as in finding a space in a city car park and then manoeuvring into it.
