Xantia brake pad life

Post by davewithington »

Renewed th rear pads on my 93 VSX 1.9 TD this last weekend, just before the MOT (which it passed, of course), and I was surprised to find the old pads were genuine pads.

Could these be the originals, at 112,000 miles, do you think?

What's the most anyone's got from pads?

If you dont carry any weight in the back they will last a long time, i put new ones on the xm about 5 years an 25k ago and they are still as new.
The rear discs only get hot if there is people and luggage in the back.

Service Citroen is awesome, it shows me pictures of all the parts i used to be able to buy............

I'm pretty sure mine is on original rear pads at 108k - they haven't been changed since I've had it (60k) and I can't see them having been changed before that. I must do the job some time, as they are distinctly wedge shaped, and the calipers are touching the discs....

I'm glad to say that mine appear to be the originals (at 101K) and still look less than 2/3 worn. In anticipation of having to change them sometime, everytime I get under the back of the car, I give all the fasteners a good soak of WD40 (being careful of where the over-spray will go).

I suspect that like many estates, while ours does carry big heavy loads from time to time, a lot of miles is just the two of us sometimes with week-end luggage. It seems to have led a very pampered life with the first owner: 6-7k per year, and when I bought her at 67K, needed a 1,000 miles of hard driving to bed the rings in and get the oil consumption down to something sensible (nothing between 3k changes).

my estate sees very light use90% of the time but the sometimes i do use it to shift engines about and to tow, just enough to keep it all ticking over happily :)
