Heated seats

Post by tonyg »

Hi
I've got a '96 XM V6 exclusive, FCSH, 81K miles, that I've had for a year and amazingly the only thing wrong is the drivers heated seat. Does anyone know how to fix them? Does the element always go? My previous, less than pristine, XM V6 had the same problem.
Thanks

The element allways breaks up after few y's. It's common to all car makes equipped with this.
The durability of these seats are poor.
Cheapest option is to fit a standard heater seat. Original heater seats are expensive as spares and no better quality.
You may be lucky the extension cord or connector is at fault - easy to fix.

The heater elements on the XM are very fragile and run over some steel retaining wires, so when your nice MOT man (or anyone else) puts their knee on the drivers seat while reaching over to check the passanger seat belt, they knacker your heating element!
