Xantia 2.0HDi Estate Y-Reg-Ignorance to Enlightenment

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

Yes, as have posted on the "Where have all the Xantias gone?" thread there is a Xantia as above feeling sorry for itself with its bonnet up in the workshop of my local garage. Its been there for "months".

I am just wondering if I need to rescue it, revive it and take care of it.

I know very little about running more modern cars where the "computa" may well say no, flash some lights up, and head you off in the direction of the nearest specialist, or even worse main stealer to carry out the simplest of repair or maintenance tasks.

Dont think there is even a Haynes to help :D

Whats the reality? Just a few ignorant questions to get the ball rolling.

When the milage reaches the programmed in service interval does the spanner light come on, and not go out again until the computa is updated?

What about if you change the alternator, do brake discs and pads, change the oil and filter, the fuel filter, replace the coolant, change a thermostat, fit a new radiator, depressurise the suspension, replace suspension/brake pipes, replace spheres, do a timing belt, replace the exhaust , renew the clutch etc - Is there always an update the computer stage?

Any info would be appreciated particularly in relation to the 2.0HDi as I decide whether to move into the "modern car" era, or stick to what I know best.

regards Neil

The xantia HDi i think is the best of both worlds, you very rarely need a lexia (and if you do several members have one, including me. check the sticky for your local one) doing a routine service needs no computer and to reset the service light you just hold the trip reset button down when turning the igntion on for a set period of time (google it, i forget the time)

I can hand on heart say though that the xantia HDi is the best car i've ever had by a country mile ;)

Here Here!

GET IT! A Y reg Estate would be quite rare, as any Xantia on a Y plate, it WILL also qualify for slightly cheaper road tax, not as cheap as the C5 but IIRC 6 months would be around 75 quid insead of 105! Thats of course if it is a HDi most Y platers are petrol 16v units..

I love the Xantia HDi! Am about to get one from Xantic on here when he returns home...

As for computers, it does help, but in reality, they dont need them that often, my taxi man private hire has a 110bhp Xantia on a W, so for 210k, and only needed the Common Rail Pressue Pump.... abd one of the small electro valves that controls the turbo waste gate..
