I thought as much, though they all seem pretty good engines. 8vs seem more hardy than the 16vs perhaps.

Its not unreasonable to say a lot of Mini owners have them because of the cars styling, a bit like a fashion accessory, the DS3 is a bit like that ...

Danielle's brother has a Mini, he hardly drives it. It's been back to BMW more times than I can think of. Recently it's had to go back twice to have rust treated. It's just over 3 years old!Citroenmad wrote:Its not unreasonable to say a lot of Mini owners have them because of the cars styling, a bit like a fashion accessory, the DS3 is a bit like that ...

Re: Xantia-200,000 not out
This thread has the honour of being selected today by the FCF Archives February Ferret 2023
To mark the occasion see if you can come up with some new entries. If you read the couple of pages of the thread you will see and example of the famous "FCF bludgeoning off topic" as the stream of consciousness of posters moves on to other things. For me though participation always trumps pedantic on-topicness.
So whether off topic, a pic of the Cardington hangars, or on your own high mileage stories, let's have something new added to this thread today
What follows is all tongue in cheek
The Cardington Hangars diversion for example...and one I enjoyed...after that it moved to an engines discussion.

Paul, with your enthusiasm for HDi's, what is the cause of a total lack of power

Which car have you done most mileage in?
Appreciate the effort MIck!
Lets make it easier...add to the thread with
The car you have personally driven the most mileage in, in your motoring career
Mine is this. At least 160,000 miles, speak as you find, the Vectra was a very good, comfortable and reliable car.

Re: Which car have you done most mileage in?
I honestly don't know the answer to that question. Having owned as many cars as I have I doubt I've done more than 60k in any one of them. My basic ownership pattern is to get shot before they top the 120k point which usually means a big expensive service, something I have always managed to avoid! So the best answer I can offer is the car I've owned the longest which was my Toyota Celica as pictured on the Open Top Motoring thread just the other day, which lived with me for 19 years in total!!NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑22 Feb 2023, 16:58

Re: Xantia-200,000 not out
I don't know if I've ever posted this before but it's just right for this thread
It happened a long while ago now in my old 'Rat' Xantia HDi I bought from Michel of his parish. Must be ten or twelve years at least...
I called it 'Rat' because it was delightfully scruffy but fundamentally sound. I rather love the rat look... It used to have a toy stuffed rat sitting on the parcel shelf... Later, the rat took up residence in 'Rattiva', another delightfully scruffy Activa of mine and now, because I have no ratty cars it lives in my lounge down by one of my speakers.
I can still remember exactly where Rat turned over 200000 miles. It happened on the A303 just east of Andover heading for the A34... I was lucky to find a layby where I could safely pull in and take this photo. I was praying the thing wouldn't turn over to 200001 before I could stop...

By BX in the UK got scrapped at 450K miles, think it was about 80K when I bought it. My 407 (current) it about to hit 200K, bought it at 160K. The white BX in my sig got scrapped at 160K, I got it at 60K. I don't sell cars, they are kept on the road until no man on this earth would touch them.

You couldn't be more on-topic Jim! Was that the car you did most miles in, or had for the longest time?

Re: Xantia-200,000 not out
Sorry, nope, it was driven to the tat yard in 2005 just before we moved to France. It is an estimated mileage based on annual use since my ownership, the speedo didn't work for the last 2 years of it's life.

Some visuals would be nice Jim. The Rat down by the speakers, of course, and if you have them an external pic of the vehicles named Rat, or indeed Rattiva.CitroJim wrote: ↑22 Feb 2023, 17:28 I called it 'Rat' because it was delightfully scruffy but fundamentally sound. In a ridiculous link back to our friends Allcock and Brown and unfinished business on the FCF Archive February Ferret, both Allcock and Brown each carried with them a toy Cat on their famous flight. The curious will find out their names here under the heading unfinished business viewtopic.php?p=746112#p746112
You may find the name of Allcock's Cat personally appealing I would have thought Jim!
