Xantia-200,000 not out
My first Xantia was a bit of a desperate purchase for £450, needing to immediately replace a Mondeo with a hideousy groaning diff in November. I did just short of 40,000 miles in that one before the clutch reached the end of its manual adjustment and was slipping so badly the car wouldn't move from the spot. As always happens with these things this occured in late December.
Anyone fancy doing a clutch on a Xantia in December without a garage-me neither so I bought another one for the princely sum of £300 with 140,000 on the clock.
I did intend doing a bit of a running it into the ground job, hence the putting off of curing the oil leak, and changing the timing belt which resulted in my lastest ressurrection exercise from a broken camshaft.
Well the car this weekend just passed through the 200,000 miles mark, on a trip down to the excellent "wartime weekend" on the North York Moors Railway at Pickering. Passed a trio of Traction Avants on the way back over the moors-I wonder if they managed the pull up Sutton Bank for those who know the anatomy of the area.
Thanks to all FCF members who have helped me keep my old motor running. I may even treat it to a new heater matrix if I get round to it
regards
Neil

Good to hear your Xant is still going well, they do seem to go on forever!
I didnt know about the pickering event, i might have went if so. Our TA pulls up Sutton Bank just fine Not sure how the small engined cars would like it though.

One of my local Xantias, a HDi 110, has turned 205k and is used every day as a hospital car! dooingaround 600 miles a WEEK.
I bought one couple of years ago with 250k on it!! Wish I kept it really, but broke her, due to trim holes, and body damage... These HDi's are prooving reliable high miler units, like the XUD's before them...

Just passed the symbolic 234567 yesterday in my SX estate bringing home
my new car transporter trailer from Bedford. Just a spit away from the BRE
Cardington hangars too. Still going strong covering 600 miles at high speed
(going!!) with ease in comfort. I just wish I had a working sunroof as it was
a fab afternoon and I'd have loved the roof open.
Paul, with your enthusiasm for HDi's, what is the cause of a total lack of power
and the engine management light coming on - ruins the car my pal has offered
me?

Neil, great stuff!!!
Andrew!!!!
You must have practically passed my house You should have called in for a cuppa and a natter.
Next time you're over this way...
I'm looking forward to seeing my V6 pass the magic 200,000 mark....
<sigh> years ago it was the magic 100,000 mark. How cars must have generally improved given that 30 or so years ago 100,000 was a hard mileage to achieve and now at that sort of mileage we consider a car just nicely run in.

The Cardington hangars are a common sight for me, living nearby but every time I se them I still marvel at their sheer size..
They still house balloons to this day...
Just imagine how may Citroens you could stash away in those two

My sister works in BRE and used to work in Watford and visit the site so
has been inside the hangar - unfortunately, I missed out on a guided tour
she gave my parents who were visiting her but they were quite blown away
by the building. Like you Jim, I marvel at their sheer scale and prominence
in the landscape. I knew I was probably in your neck of the woods and
would've loved a chat.
The newly purchased transporter trailer lived in Sandy and after 250 miles
I believe I may have been zapped by a Gatso in the final few 100 yards
on the A1M where the damned speed limit fluctuated up and down.
Guess I was too busy checking the satnav and roads/landmarks to see
the changing speed limit signs. Spoiled the day and I'm mad with myself.

Ill get shot or chouted at for this - but Citroen dont actually build engines...
Its the PSA group, I think Peugeot do the engine designs and building, and Citroen get to fit them to their cars..
I think the last engine Citroen built was in the CX...

I thought they were still linked with Peugeot? I dont think they are purely FORD. If they are, im sticking with my PSA 8v!

The first Gen HDi 8v 2.0i 90 and 100bhp units, and the First Gen 2.2 16v engine is 100 percent PURE PSA.... No Ford..
Second Gen 16v units, certainly the 1400 HDi units or co-op PSA / Ford... and the Petrol engines are PSA/BMW co -op...
The 1600 Turbo Petrol, is found in the Pug 207 and also in the BMW Mini..
