Xantia V6 won't start

a good result i think :)

I'd far rather change a battery than a crank sensor

£65 for a Yuasa with a 2 year guarantee and the problems solved - just the pain getting there! I've heard of, but never experienced batteries doing such off things. One for the Experience list!

Like you say, it's amazing how much difference a duff battery can make!

Especially in a V6... It's practically and engine out job :twisted:

I'm staggered at how a duff battery caused all t is mayhem. Still, delighted another V6 is restored to full health :D

It's completely plausable Jim, Its french and was rather enjoying its sleep :)

I have noticed that the V6 engine management ECU will lock itself out if the battery voltage goes very low, and won't restart until the battery is disconnected and cleanly reconnected. This often leads to jump-starts not succeeding.

I've heard of other ECUs "going to sleep" - apparently Landrovers and Range Rovers are swines for it and need 9 or 10V applied to them for several hours to persuade them to "wake up" (or something like that). This seems to have been a voltage-only issue (igntion on, the battery was giving less than 12v, but would turn the engine over fine), but must have been too low for the Anti-theft ECU. Connect a battery charger (jump leads didn't seem to do it) to lift the voltage for a few seconds whilst the igntion was turned on, then it would work. I think we had a duff cell, but the others still able to give enough energy to kid us into thinking it was working...

Now to find out how to disable the LH mirror flicking down when reversing - Dad finds it very offputting. Any ideas?

Yep. It was months and months before I even realised my V6 had one :roll: It was Paul (Citroenxm) that sussed it...

Basically, all you need to do is put the car in reverse so the mirror dips and then adjust it back to the normal position whilst the car remains in reverse. You can get it so there is no dip between normal and reverse at all; that was the case with mine.

Similarly, you can adjust the amount of dip you get in reverse the same way.

Gaffer tape, there is no substitute (well, silicon sealer maybe) :twisted:

Think we're makikng progress on the mirror front - doesn't dip down, just inwards now but significantly better - cheers guys!
