V6 Oil filter

Post by Toby_HDi »

Quick question regarding filters for the ES9J4S engine.

Am I being completely stupid or will a different size filter have a negative effect?

I have a filter that is the same diameter as the OEM one but it is about 4cm taller. Same thread size and by-pass valve pressure.

EDIT: Ignore me. The one I supposedly need is about 1cm smaller than OEM. Getting my mm and cm mixed up. The taller filter doesn't have the same by-pass pressure either.

Perhaps the V6 filters changed when the others changed in 98 to the longer service intervals.

For Peugeots, the XUD and TU's changed from 1109N2 to 1109T0 (although the Citroen number will be different, and the V6 one will be different) , you know what I mean, just suggesting perhaps the filters changed when the service intervals were 'stretched' ;)

Maybe you should contact Rmunns, who apparently has a batch of V6 filters (see his thread below), which are not ideal for his car. I don't know if they'd be right for yours though, or if he'd be interested in coming to an arrangement!

I am using the same filter that is used for 1.9 td. Two reasons:

I have a good few of them and one of the French parts suppliers lists it as being suitable. I think the real McCoy is a slightly longer and higher volume version.

They certainly fit but they are considerably smaller. I worry that some factors list them for the V6... Personally, I'd not use them.

I use the Mahle OC503 and this is a considerably bigger filter but not as big as some, notably Mann, that I've seen.

Mr. Munns, I'm interested in a few of your surplus ones. No rush and I can wait until you are in the UK.
