Thanks fellas.

He decided against it in the end, having bought the 406 already. All useful information nonetheless.

Chris

It is difficult to argue against your experience, but to be a little bit pedantic you don't really know what had been put in the tank you are assuming it was LHM by smell and the comments from your mechanic, but it could have been something else.

There was a thread on here some time backhttp://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... hlight=lhm from someone who claimed to have had LHM + LDS in his tank he had apparently been running quite happily for quite a while suspension working correctly.

I can't see why theoretically LHM can't be used, the two oils are identical spec apart from the base I do wonder if your mix was not LDS and LHM but LDS and DoT4.

I guess that I will just have to try the mix for myself :-( but it will have to wait until spring :-)

It was on Ebay, unfortunately it has now ended. This was the one with 470k on the clock.

"Ass dragging C5"

I may have put in a bid myself if it weren't for the Coupé currently eating up my money

Slightly off topic, I went and had a look at the 406 my brother bought. Not bad for 313k. Front brakes feel like they might be dragging and everything is a bit grubby but other than that, everything major is in order from what I can tell.

Back on topic, may I put forward another aspect on the LHM/LDS debate....

Cachaciero, you say you and others have had a jar of the two mixed, sitting for a while with no negative effects. Is it possible that this may be so because it is static? When it is in the hydraulic system I assume its forever being agitated and this may cause an effect similar to Chris' issues?

Just something that crossed my mind randomly.

Difficult to know for sure but I do know that shaking the jar does not produce foam as such, it traps air in the oil which appear as bubbles but these are small, rise and disperse quite quickly none of this appears to be much different to pure LDS.

It has just occurred to me that I have the bits to make a simple system to pump the oil through an orfice at relatively high pressure to see what happens, will take me a while though as very busy at the mo.
