Thanks for asking Xac, I'm fine. Unfortunatly the car isn't, the bumpers gone, and the slam panel and cross members have gone backwards!

Basically I couldn't slow down enough on a thin and very slippery road at a passing place, and rather than hit the transit facing me, or the 107 in front heading in my direction (which managed to stop!) I veered off into a ditch, and was brought to an abrupt stop (30 odd mph - 0mph) by a post!

After I got out I learned that the post stopped me going into a fairly deep and fast flowing stream that was a good 10 meters in width - and I'd reckon with the awful weather we had today at least 1 meter in depth. So all in all, big mistake on my part - totally my own fault. But at least I managed to avoid hitting anyone else, which means just one dead car - I'm just totally gutted it was an Activa :(

For anyone with a facebook account this should work:

That'll polish out Ok Dom!

Seriously, pleased you're OK. Cars are replaceable, you're not so that's the main thing.

Looks nasty and looks like the end of your Activa.

keep it and break it for whatever spares are recoverable...

Hopefully the strut tops are...

Crikey Dommo. Not good.

Just remember, its only metal and can be replaced. You can't. Glad you are ok and no one else was hurt. That and you are man enough to admit it was your fault which is something most people seem to be incapable of these days so credit to you.

If its any consolation, I'll have some bits if you choose to break. I'd like to think thats repairable but I fear thats a write off.

It wont be any consolation but I am sure a lot of us have had similar times, I know I have, but I have just managed to do a vauxhall and a small arbitrary hatch, and so on

forgetting the car, at least your insurance wont be affected..

you never know.. pull that steel out of the way .. it may ... may just be ok ... with work and a fair few bits.. it does look erm. borderline though..

yeah it does look saveable, its the front subframe thats the issue though..... and the exspensive rads and headlights, anyone breaking a 2.1td? that will have all the stuff needed.
Must also take my hat off to you Dommo, takes a man to say he was in the wrong, just a shame about the car

You've certainly made a good job of that!

Pleased your ok, could have been worse if you had hit others etc. As said, cars can be replaced, but its a bit of a shame it was an Activa as you say.

Do you plan on keeping hold of it or will the insurance be taking it? It should be a good source of parts.

The strut tops look perfect as it happens (doh!), do they fit on a mk1 VSX??!! I will definately be stripping it for bits, I'm 99% sure it's beyond repair, we had to rip the bumper off to get it home, and the wiring loom that runs along the bottom of the front of the car is cut to bits - ie some wires are completly ripped apart from eachother. The ignition key does nothing at all, (and I did press the fuel cut off switch, which activated!) so it's safe to say the loom is buggered at the front. The rad fans and headlights and everything attached to the front flops about, but that would be the slam panel I reckon. I'll take some photos in the light but it doesnt look good.

What bits would you be after Toby? It had a £400 front ram in january!! And a complete set of spheres, I'd like to keep all but the two activa specific ones mind you.

And I have a 2.1TD mk2 sat in the drive..! Hmmm :P

I'll be back tomorrow with pictures, going out for my mates gfs b'day tonight! Should take my mind of things, briefly.. Poor Activa :(

Sorry I only spotted your reply after I'd posted. I'll be keeping it, no point with insurance as I'm third party fire and theft, but even if I were fully comp I wouldn't bother claiming for a car so worthless!

I'll be assessing the damage once the VSX is running, I definately need a car for work! And I'll be gutting the Activa for as many useful bits as possible, 4 electrovalves, two good rams, 10 good spheres, and so on! And wasn't someone after a mk2 mauritius blue spoiler?

Good that your keeping it, insurance would be very pointless as you say, though would have been another story if another car was involved.

I guess looking at that it will have chassis damage, maybe time for a 2.1TD Activa? Though that would be quite a huge job transferring the Activa bits.

Still, atleast you have a back up Xantia, and a 2.1TD at that! Very nice engine imo.
