Removing spring Xantia brake

Post by Diabolical »

I'm back to using Xantia as CX Estate goes off road for winter, I hate the spring in the Xantia brake pedal.
I while ago I was told it's easy to take out spring holder under pedal and replace with bit of copper pipe same size.

I had a quick go today but couldn't get it out, also worried about breaking some kind of clip so won't go go back in properly.

Any advice on removing please.

It can be a bit tricky sometimes and a MK2 seems harder than a MK1.

Lift the pedal fully and grasp the black cylinder between the pedal pendant and the dosuer valve and tease it out.

Sometimes they play the game and at other times, they can be very recalcitrant. Just persevere.

Then, split the cylinder by sliding the collar in the middle to one side and then replace the spring with the aforesaid copper pipe the same length as the free length of the spring.

Which reminds me. I must do this on old V6...

You can slip a flat blade 'driver under the base of the plunger assembly where the pedal pressing butts against it. Easier (safer) than levering by the flange.

I had another go today and can't remover the bugger, toooo much hard braking has jammed in tight.

I will have a go with flat blade in the week.

I'm so used to CX brakes I don't feel safe in Xant.

After much pulling and tugging a part finally came off :D but only bottom part of cylinder that spring sits in, problem is there is no way I can can clip this part back into the collar.
I'm guessing the whole lot is meant come out :?: :?:
I've temporally stuck a bit of pipe into cylinder and funnily enough works just how I want it :)
