From a 2000 model 406 110HP HDI TD is a gearbox for sale as the car was written off. I've asked the seller if it's fully working but he doesn't know.
It's had no bids at the moment so is nice and cheap but I'm unsure if it would be ok to fit to mine and is it too risky a gamble due to unknown condition?

I thought it was the 90hp HDI box that fitted. I saw an XUD11 306 and noticed it had much longer gears so asked about the box and was told it was from a 406. My first gear is shockingly short if booted yet 2nd is just a little too long for standing starts.CitroJim wrote:Nope, because it's an ML5 on the 110HDi.
However, a worthwhile one to fit to a 1.9TD is the BE3 from a 90 HDi. It's gives it slightly longer legs.

It's the annoying thing about the TD's gearbox, 1st seems designed for towing the QE2.
The best thing they could have done is fit a 6 speed. Imagine cruising at 70 doing only 2000rpm *sigh*

Couldn't agree more Xac and I'm often telling people how well the gearing is suited for heavy towing, hill climbing or a fully-loaded car but is a shortfall with just driver. I guess Citroen's answer would be a petrol engine but we know the argument against that one.Xac wrote:It's the annoying thing about the TD's gearbox, 1st seems designed for towing the QE2.

Eh... im gettin mixed up here... doesn't the hdi 110bhp ml gearbox do 87mph at 3000rpm?? and the hdi 90 be gearbox do 78mph at 3000rpm?
Certainly the BE box on an XUD is revving higher at 80mph... isn't it 78mph at 3K?? Id rather have 87 mph at 3k, easyer on the fuel cruising??
Paul

I checked last night and yes, I see 79mph @ 3K so if that's what the HDI 90hp achieves then there's no difference?citroenxm wrote:Eh... im gettin mixed up here... doesn't the hdi 110bhp ml gearbox do 87mph at 3000rpm?? and the hdi 90 be gearbox do 78mph at 3000rpm?
