Clonking on letting the clutch out and gearchanges

Post by CITMAN »

Further to my recent post regarding the nasty clonk I get from ZX 1.4i when pulling away from rest. I have noticed that one the car is left in gear and moved backwards and forwards theres a fair bit of movement in the engine mount thats behind the sump pan. Could this mount cause the clonk in which I have.
I also get quite a bit of clutch judder when the engine is very hot could this be related i.e. rubber getting hot and too soft.

Clutch judder could indeed be caused by sloppy or broken engine mounts. Jack up, use axle stands and get into a position where you can see the lower mount. Have someone rock the engine from the engine bay. You'll see any undue movement in the rubber.

If the bottom mount is the same as a BX , check that the bolt at the subframe end is tight , as it runs in a sleeve and if its not done up tight you get a clonk evertime you change the load on the mount
