Xantia2.0 wrote:My daughter needed a lift into work today, so I took the Xantia, and never before have I realised how fast it can be if you push it!! I was on a nice country road, went to go down from 5th to 4th, and accidentally hit 2nd, but before I had a chance to rectify the gear change, I realised how fast it was in high RPM's! Even at just half throttle in 2nd it shot from 45MPH to 65MPH in about 1.5 seconds! However it was a dusty road and I suspect I'll need to give it a clean after all that blasting! Not to mention spray some brake cleaner on the disks to get rid of any dirt to stop them scoring. But who cares! I can see why Xantias sold by the thousand, great cars :)

Pitty there are hardly any 2.0 Petrols though... As their the fastest engines in Xantias!
You appear to have a magical Xantia, as that's considerably faster than my 270BHP Impreza could manage. Bear in mind that took 8.4 seconds to go from 30-90, and Lotus Carlton with near 400BHP takes 7 seconds for the same.. your Xantia must be rocket powered!

Or you're talking crap.

I wonder which one it is?

My experience was with an estate and it was almost as bad as my Activa. Worse than every V6 I've owned.
I agree completely. I had a 2 litre 16v Xantia as a courtesy car when my Activa was in for work a couple of years ago. It was worse on fuel, and slower than the Activa was. Most disappointed.

I could get my XM TCT Auto estate to show 36mpg on the fuel computer on the motorway at about 75mph, the Activa rarely bettered 30. I could get over 60mpg from the Xantia 110HDi. I got a seemingly constant 43mpg from my XM 2.1 diesels, a bit more running on veg in the summer months. Xantia 1.9TD and ZX1.9TD always seemed to be 45mpg, and I drove them quite hard.

I once got 14mpg over a full tank from a Saab 900 Turbo16..

Then your Jag is broken as my Cougar had the 2.5V6 Version of your Jag's engine in it and my 2.0HDI Xantia wouldn't get anywhere near it..

Oh boy, a 3 year old trolling thread has been brought back from the dead...

The 3 litre V6 Xantia runs rings around the 2 litre Xantia's for performance, nuff said.

The Xantia 2.0 HDI figures for performance is something like 0-60 , 10.8 seconds with a top speed of 110 mph.
Unless the S type is the original 1950's one, then it needs scrapping. The Xanthia beating the S type hands down could be an all round enjoyable drive though, and not performance related, in which case it's very much a personal choice. I would have still had my V6 S type if I was a rich man. I've been through a Laguna, a Rover 75 and a Saab 9-3 since then so I suppose I've spent just as much losing cash on trade in's.

What I can't understand though, is the Xanthia of the OP being described as some sort of flying machine. Even the most imaginative driver couldn't possibly be so deluded.

But you have such great driving roads down there, absolutely brilliant. I had a hoot, even in a Berlingo on the A39. We were down in Bude last week, it rained, so we ended up touring round Cornwall. Lands End, St.Ives, Mevagissey, Lappa Valley etc etc. Brilliant driving roads!
