Saxos can be made very fast...my cousin had a VTS with a full modified engine including 708 Cat cams and even ran nitrous too!seisporting wrote:I would also imagine a modified Saxo would unfortunately ruin your Xantia.
My standard VTS does 60 in mid 7's and 130 top end.
And it is by no means 'fast', just adequetly quick.
He stopped 140mph...
TBH it was just like a big go-kart - good fun though!

Broadly speaking the 2.1TD won't be as fast as the 2.0 16v since the 2.1 only has 110 BHP where as the 2.0 16v can have 135bhp or 155bhp depending on which Xantia its in. While the 2.1 will produce more torque than the 2.1 that's just an indication that it can produce it's power at a lower speed (RPM) than the petrol engine does.Citroenmad wrote:Yeah, there are quite a few faster Xantias than a 2.0 16v, im sure a 2.1TD would be getting close and feel much more grunty too.
I'm with you both.. I think he is a 'wind up merchant' personallyDommo wrote:That's the word I was looking for. I thought it was just me, thinking he was just some kind of attention seeker!
Has a perfectly good focus? but keeps the Xantia with looooaaaaads of problems, then says, cheerio chaps, I've bought a 5 litre porsche...and then back to the Xant!!?
No offence intended, but the aforementioned bloke seems to have a helluva boat load of problems with the Xant or just likes starting new threads
That's why I always try to put pics in my posts,
1./ It shows the problem.
2./ It hopefully shows the solution to the problem..so could be of some help to others with the same dilemma.
and 3./ Shows I actually have a problem..and not B / S ing

I know all that, hence i said 'feel'. After driving a 2.0 16V 135bhp Xm manual (the more common 16v engine anyway) and a 2.1TD Xm manual i can say that the 2.0 is the quicker car, but i prefer the 2.1 as its easier to drive quicker due to its low reving nature and it doesnt feel that much slower.Kowalski wrote:Broadly speaking the 2.1TD won't be as fast as the 2.0 16v since the 2.1 only has 110 BHP where as the 2.0 16v can have 135bhp or 155bhp depending on which Xantia its in. As i said, the 2.1 does feel more livlier more of the time as it has more torque at a lower rev range. However when the 2.0 is wound up it really does go well.

Off topic slightly.. how does the XM 2.5 compare with the 2.1? I don't hear much about the 2.5 but I always fancied one... didn't it win 'Tow Car' of the year in it's day?

i Love my valver!! it will be making a return home after a 6 year hiatus to fathers driveway!! Very capable cruiser, would return 32mpg at 80 on the clock all day, on normal unleaded, the seats are phenomenally comfy for trips too, supportive and ache free!! every time i drove it no matter where i was going made me smile!! even after a day driving 350z's at work (only 2 of us in the cleaning bay that were old enough to drive them, me and the other guy was barely 5ft and couldn't get the seat comfy!!) i still couldn't wait to get back in it to drive home!!!Homer wrote:Xantia2.0 wrote:
But I'd take a BX 16v over either of them.
the coast road down here from hayle up to portreath is one of my favorite roads for out and out FUN in a valver! - it aint too bad in the Xanty estate!!! perfect car for the road, used to use it very frequently!
the 3l V6 is another animal all together! brother had one in the 406 saloon, set the cruise at 70 and he managed 42mpg, it would also pull away in 4th gear and hit 130 without a change! the only thing it lacked was the handling, and when pushed would eat both fuel and tyres, but the effortless way it went through the digits on the speedo was Very impressive!
After All, I am the Cornish one!

Is there a point in being able to reach 62 MPH in the blink of an eye.
Certainly on the race track, but on the public road? You know what they say about "The bigger the exhaust) (doesn't apply to lady drivers.)
Incidentally, the OP is not the only wind up merchant on the forum, no names no pack drill stu.

Re: Stuff a modified Saxo! The stock 2.0 Xantia is FAST!!
Thats nothing, my scooter beats M5's in second gear up to 11mph. We're then neck and neck upto 165mph when i start to pull away from the Beemer due to lighter weight.Xantia2.0 wrote:My daughter needed a lift into work today, so I took the Xantia, and never before have I realised how fast it can be if you push it!! I was on a nice country road, went to go down from 5th to 4th, and accidentally hit 2nd, but before I had a chance to rectify the gear change, I realised how fast it was in high RPM's! Even at just half throttle in 2nd it shot from 45MPH to 65MPH in about 1.5 seconds! However it was a dusty road and I suspect I'll need to give it a clean after all that blasting! Not to mention spray some brake cleaner on the disks to get rid of any dirt to stop them scoring. But who cares! I can see why Xantias sold by the thousand, great cars
Pitty there are hardly any 2.0 Petrols though... As their the fastest engines in Xantias!
