SORTED - was **URGENT** Dorchester, Dorset - 2cv...

Post by TooMany2cvs »

I've just had a phone call from Ellie, sat in a sulking 2cv in a lane somewhere near Dorchester.

One driveshaft has done a runner from the gearbox, one bolt findable, and the inner joint on the shaft is not sounding healthy.

Can anybody think of a local 2cver or 2cv specialist who can help? I reckon the quickest and easiest solution is going to be inner shaft, set of bolts, a can of brake cleaner and some kitchen roll, and possibly a pad. But I'm 100 miles away.

Give me a shout - 07796 690210 - if you can think of somebody.

THANK YOU!

Think we're sorted - Rick Pembro is a hero of the western world, and heading to the rescue.

So would I - if there were any tools in the car, or anybody near it who was vaguely competent... <grin>

It turns out to have buggered the shaft, the cross box, the cooling shroud and the caliper, too. I'm waiting to find out how driveable it is, but I can see me heading down there in the 205 to swap over...

The guy who restored it 10yrs and 20k miles ago. I think it's had one set of pads since then, but not disks. I had that wing off to do the exhaust before the MOT in May (probably 2.5k miles ago), and it was fine then. Apparently it started to rattle a couple of miles earlier - she had a look, but didn't see anything, then it suddenly let go. As it would.

I'm waiting for a call back from Rick when it's done. At least they can get onwards to find a B&B (and pub...) for the night now.

If it's one of those with a Yorkshire accent, check the hitch-to-frame bolts. We nearly lost the 4x4 on an Autoroute when the nuts vibrated off one I'd borrowed. No shakeproof washers fitted, and non-Nyloc nuts. One nut totally AWOL, the other about three threads away.

i will check but i think they are nylock nuts on my one Adrian,

what did happen serveral times just after turnning tight one direction only, when straightening out the dersh would shake violantly from side to side,
i recon one of the teliscopic drive shafts were sticking and i found stopping sudenly would sort it,

good job this only happend on slow maneuvering
