Non really... theres so many sensors that can trigger the light... from pressure sensors, to EGR valve vaccums etc etc..
How does she drive? Can you still rev her to the red line or is she limited to 3k??
She really does need plugging in to be told were to look, or else you be all week...

Try it and see - how bad can it get.
Very poor running if it is OK but no difference if it is defective.
In a related note, I had my car in the garage - actually for an MOT but took it too early, had them fix the reversing light switch and check the power steering for leaks but mainly check the turbo-related bits and bobs as it wasn't boosting until >3,000 revs.
When I got it back they said they had not been able to do anything with the turbo and that it may need servicing but they had run a diagnostic that had thrown up a few codes that they couldn't make any sense of and to bring it back in a couple of weeks for their resident diagnostics wizard to see.
On taking it away, it has never pulled so well and the turbo is spot on - there is still a 'step' at 3200 revs but it pulls very strongly from standstill now, better than any time since I bought it.
Called in to tell them yesterday and spoke to the mechanic who had done it.
He said he had taken off all the pipes and connectors and cleaned them then replaced them but not found anything wrong.
It looks as though he has, without knowing it, discovered a leaking joint and fixed it.
Maybe it will be more economical now too

Is your engine management Light (EML) still on.? I've got a similar problem with my HDi 110. I suspected when I got the car over two years ago that there was a problem as the EML did not illuminate when you switched the engine on (thought the bulb may have been removed, but it was a dud). Still car ran fine, and has done for the last 60,000 miles. I've just changed the instrument pod to sort the randon fuel gauge problem, replaced all the bulbs for good ones and now the EML comes on on start-up, goes out for a moment and then is on again.
