Pull them all apart, examine for loose/damaged contacts and corrosion, clean them - use a contact cleaner spray and refit. Push then together and pull them apart a few times to ensure good clean contacts.

This may cure the problem temporarily but the light will come back on again, the connector really needs to be cut out & the wires soldered directly. There are 2 of the connectors (each 2 pins) both the same type of connectors but different colours i think, cant remember the colours off hand though

I recommend Xac's method of replacing the connectors with "dean's connectors" - easily and cheaply available on Ebay. This allows seat removal without having to recut and resolder them each time.

I've replaced both front seat connectors (as both were lighting a fault) on my current Xantia and one on my previous with 100% success.

Do bare in mind,
it's best to isolate the power first (I disconnect the battery but your C5 might require a special routine before doing so?) and wait a good 10 minutes as you're playing with explosives, effectively.

There are any amount of contact cleaner sprays available. I use the RS one but you can get it closer to home.
Maplins if you have to but Aitken Brothers on High Bridge is a superb place for electronic stuff.

I had this problem with my C5, i took all of the connectors apart which are located under the footwell on the passenger side. Gave them a good clean with contact cleaner, reconnected the wires and placed the main wire which i thought it was a bit higher up away from where feet go.

That was a few months ago now and its not returned. :) (you watch, it will have tomorrow now ive said that! )

Mine would come on sometimes when starting the car and then not appear for a few days. Though it usually always cleared when i turned the car back on. After cleaning the contacts ive not had any further problems.

I think there is more than 3 connectors? I just took them all apart and cleaned them, wont do any harm.

I think Gazza is thinking of the seat connectors rather than the main loom connectors under the footwell carpet. Any water ingress into the footwell here is bound to cause problems sooner or later.

This maybe way out but here goes :)

Assuming the seat airbag/pretensioner setup is similar to the Xantia then the connectors/plugs may not be the problem. The wires that run under the carpet and emerge under the seats in a plug then plug into their respective sockets. The wires from these sockets then run along the underside of the seat(transmission tunnel side) and connect to a socket on the seat mounted part of the seat belt. The wires are clipped to the underside of the seat above the seat runner. If the seats are moved back and forth regularly it is possable that the wires have come adrift from their cilp and been caught in the seat runners. No amount of cleaning connectors will extinguish the "airbag" light as there maybe a break in the wires that lead to the seat.
A proper examination will require the removal of the seat
I have no experience/knowledge of the seat side air bag connectors but would expect them to triggered from the same wiring setup.
I would expect it to be unlikely on a C5 but i have had experience of the Xantia plug into the seat part of the seat belt (pre tensioner :? ) not seating properly. This plug is similar to the one on the steering wheel airbag and is held in by a metal clip.My cure for this is cable ties

Hope this helps

The connectors i cleaned on my C5 were under the passenger footwell, lift up the carpet from the front of the car and where the floor raises (usually where people have their feet, not the flat bit of floor) there is a sound insulating foam block, remove this and you will see the connectors, i think there is about 5 all together?

The pre-tensioners on a C5 are in the inertia reels not the stalks like the xantia so there are no pre tensioner connections under the seats, the airbag connectors under the seats are for the lateral airbags in the seats. The light should go out when the fault is corrected there should be no need to erase any fault codes.
