I hear crickets

Post by MikeT »

Or that's what I first thought until I realised they must be nesting in the front O/S wing if they are crickets.

It's obviously something to do with the front wheels as I can shut them up by turning the steering as if taking up the slack, if that makes sense?

There were a lot of what I'd call exaggerated/superfluous advisories on my last MOT but none of them referred to steering parts (except the steering wheel top bush) so what could be worn to allow this chirping cricket noise?

Have you tried gently applying your handbrake to see if that silences it?

Balljoints that are starting to dry out will creak. Try squirting some Wd40 under the rubbers.

Erm, yes, that is a possibility actually, Andrew! Why didn't I think of it?

I daren't look, prefer to do an Emu and bury my head on that one! Perhaps I could take a wee peek but to be honest, I'm not sure how to gauge it specifically.

I did get the impression something had dried out so I'll try that trick also.

Thanks all.

May be just crickets - do you keep lizards or tarantulas?

If so, I'm tempted to leave them be as they sound very chirpy when being taken for a ride.

Two managers where I worked in Staines used to always play practical jokes on each other, such as leaving skimpy knickers in the glove box for the other's partner to find!
For revenge, he bought a load of reptile food crickets and released them in the panty planter's car.
They made home in the air vents and he never got rid of them.

I dropped a box of them in our lounge - too weeks to get rid of the little buggers.

The escaped 50+ mice were another story entirely

Good for stiff house door locks, and power tool locking levers.

A main use I find for it, is cleaning my hands "in the field" with a half-decent scrap of rag to assist.

One product that doesn't get enough rap is Paslode/ITW nail gun cleaning spray. It's like carb cleaner but doesn't eat plastic connectors the same way.
