Replacing a condenser HELP!

Post by chelseaalan22 »

Hi,

I have a leak problem with my aircon and I beleive it is the condenser of mybe the pipes.

To play safe I have bought a brand new condenser of fleebay ,bargain £15 beat that.

my problem is that I need to access the old condenser,I can see it between the fan and the rad but is it accsesible from the front (Fan out or the rear Rad out?)

I may net need the new condenser but if there is any doubt I can replace it.

Any ideas guys???????

If it's anything like the Xantia, it'll mean taking the radiator (and front mounted intercooler) out... When I did that on the Xantia the bottom radiator hose was difficult but since I was replacing the radiator, I didn't mind cutting the outlet pipe on the radiator off.

iv done this before its a rad and intercooler out job the hardest bit is getting the bottom hose out i ended up cutting mine and joining it with a bit of pipe and 2 jubilee clips. dont forget to put in 2 new o-rings wher the pipe joins the condensor good luck.

Hi
I would not use a second hand condensor. If its been left open to the atmosphere it will have moisture inside which will have started to corrode.
A brand new one with a warranty would cost less than £100.00.

Just to help reasure and rid that idiot above, I WOULD use a 2nd hand one and thats a BRILLIANT price!

The moisture is not a problem as long as you give the system a GOOD LONG Vac out for some time to clear any moisture out...

Some people know bugger all, or have far too much money to throw away!

Actually, I agree with Schlemiel on this one. Autolusso sent me a used Valeo condenser that was corroding inside and out! (Nice work, you theiving teeknucks.)

As I understand it, the R134A additive oil contains esters that readily oxidise to form acidic compounds, which then attack the inner surfaces and attract moisture to drive ongoing degradation...

The vacuum pump will get rid of most moisture but will not get rid of any possible corrosion!
Also while we are on this subject. If vacuuming gets rid of all moisture why do people sell receiver dryers???
If a system has been open then the dryer should be replaced.
Please don't give people bad advise when its not your money that's being wasted.
