Temperature Gauge is getting a bit hotter than usual

Post by Xantia2.0 »

I was out 20 mins ago and noticed the temperature gauge creeped up to the half way mark, when it usually barely leaves the COLD mark! It didn't go any hotter than the middle but still worried me. What could be causing this ? According to the service history it had a coolant flush 2,000 miles ago and had 2 new hoses and a new thermostat in 2008.

Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like you're fine.

All Xantiae barring the occasional TCT 2.0i Turbo Activa run at the dead level
horizontal IIRC 80 or is it 90 mark - basically if it's anywhere up from the
horizontal then start worrying about things.

The thermostat range is usually open fully around the 80-90 mark and then
the fans will cycle in/out - just worth checking they cut in when the car is
idlling a few minutes at the full operating temperature.

Well that's the thing, I had the car idling for about 30 mins yesterday but not once did the cooling fan rotate! The car stayed at the normal temperature, but the fan looked like it was dead.
