ZX wobble!

Post by berlingo_neil »

Hi chaps,

This isn't actually my car, it's one i went to view this morning.

It's a 1996 ZX 1.9td, 152k on the clock & in quite reasonable conditon The seller picked me up & soon after it became apparent that it had some 'issues'!

The problem seems to only afflict 3rd gear - when accelerating reasonably briskly in 3rd the whole car seems to wobble - there are no graunching sounds or really anything untoward, but it's quite severe & the gear stick shakes also. If you left off the power the wobble stops. :?

I thought perhaps it was a duff engine mount? The guy reckons it's been like it for a couple of months.

any ideas?

cheers.

It could be a worn bottom engine mount. Is there any engine rock when it ticks over?

Check for a damaged front tyre. A bulge in the tread could cause a similar shimmy.

also, very likely inner driveshaft 'tri ax' joint :)

mainly manifests itself in third under load

second hand driveshaft and you'll be right

had exactly the same problem with a ZX.,,
