Will a Xantia 2.1TD gearbox fit a 2.0 HDI 110 bhp ?

Post by Dannyboy »

Hi gents , ( Don`t know if any ladies visit this forum ! ) see prev thread re noisy gearbox. I think my gearbox ( 2001, 2.0 HDI 110 bhp.) is a ( BVM5 ref Citroen Manuals ) or a ML5T ref Haynes and this forum or is it a BVM5 ML5T type ? From what I can gather it`s the same type as fitted to the Xantia 2.1TD. I have seen an add selling one from the 2.1 TD. Will it fit and are the ratios the same ? Is this the same gearbox as fitted to any Peugeot 406 HDI`s ? Looking at the forum it appears I am unlucky to have worn gearbox troubles......they don`t seem to give many problems. Is it safe enough to buy a secondhand one with high miles ?.....won`t be many low mile ones out there. Any advice appreciated

Tks in advance......Dannyboy.

I think the HDi may have higher ratios but can't gaurantee it but for your application there wouldnt be too much difference. only ones taht seem to knowingly differ are the ones fitted to the 2.0ct petrol engine.

HDi's have a much lower 5th gear, like 90mph at 3000rpm.. Im not sure what the later 2,1 box give, but in the XM on the 2.1 they give 80 at 3000 rpm..

Im sure the box should mate up as far as the bolt holes go to the block... as long as you get a Hydraulic change box which I think in the Xantias they all were.. but in the XM early ones are Cable..

Seeing as the HDi 2.oi 8v is based around the XUD range I cant see why not, but ratios need to be checked out.
