Aircon Condenser

Post by chelseaalan22 »

Hi,
I tried to get my aircon regassed but when the system was pressure tested we heard a 'Hissing' sound.

Looking from above the sound comes from the N/S bottom of the rad.By putting my hand under the rad in the corner and 'Jiggling'it about the sound gets louder then quieter. The guy said it maybe a hole in the condenser or mybe a loose nut at the join. However I cannot see how to access it to take a gander. I have looked in the maual and yes you guessd it it says take to aircon specialist which I cannot afford.

Could anyone please tell me hoe to get access to the condenser please???

Many thanks

Hi Alan

even if you get the condenser removed from the vehicle it's going to cost in the region of £300 plus a receiver dryer (£50 to £100) plus the system will need evacuating and then recharging, depending on what refrigerant it is running on, I have been retired for a few years now so my pricing could be out.

Sorry for the bad news
Bonne Chance

dryers can be picked up for about £18
condenser is about £115 from gsf.

would be worth taking it to a specialist to confirm where the leak is.

On Xsaras, just like 306's useually go on the pipe that runs across the cross member, the Metal clips trap moisture under the rubber and corrode the pipes..

Condensers are cheaper then they used to be, try www.autokool.co.uk they may be cheaper then GSF..

Hi All

Well I'll sh1t in my hat and punch it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have those prices dropped, I always thought they where a rip off both the driers and condensers, I felt terrible sometimes when we quoted for a condenser change, prices are a lot more sensible now, though I wonder what price they are here in France "Double" the price I bet.

Condenser is in FRONT of the cooling radiator

Dryer is to the left on the off side inner wing the likly pipe to be leaking will be across the lower cross member... which is viewable from underneath...

Xsara Air Con

Post by chelseaalan22 »

Thanks Paul,

I have taken the fan out and standing in front of the car I can see the rad clearly. To the right hand side there is a plastic panel from top to bottom in the middle it has the elecrical conections for the fan ( only one fan) to the right of this and in line with the rad is a smaller rad which I thought was part of the intercooler or am I just being stupid???????The pipes rin under and along the rad and this smaller rad and do a U bend run back and disappear under the plastic in to the O/S inner wing area which I presume is where the dryer is located.

Please help!!!!!

Cheers

Alan
