engine swap????

is it viable to stick a diesel lump (HDI ???)

into a 16V petrol piscaso,

if so what limp would be best and what elss would i need like ECU and???

Hi Malcolm, what form of diesel are you thinking? What transmission does the car currently have, manual or auto?

If the car has the BE3 or BE4 gearbox, then a diesel with the same transmission should line up as all the mounting points should correspond. Not sure about the 110HDi as this comes with the bigger ML5T box of cogs.

Why are you contemplating this? Do you have a mad scheme in mind? :-k :yikes:

In addition to the donkey, you will need the ECUs, engine wiring harness, fuel tank, pump..........

well Richard

i was offerd an 02 Piscaso 1.8 16V for a £100 quid with suspected head gasket faliure,

the garage i use for my MOT's offerd me this after they have diagnosed it, and the owner was going to scrap it on monday,

we have now towed it to my work shop for my daughter,

so i had the hair brained idea of converting it to a weesal (HDI)
in the hope it might reduce the road tax, well you can live in hope,

Which Hdi engine are you looking at,the 1.4?
Would it be powerful enough?
Mind you,my sis in laws 206 is a stonking little engine,cruises happily at 90,(when she's not in it :wink: ).

Only asking due to the tax bracket, which I'm not clued up on, but my sis in law moans like heck when her road tax is due, 35 quid PER YEAR!!! :shock:

Mine's knockin on £200..

Picassos of the same year only came with the 90bhp 2.0HDi, which is a good engine. Later cars (around 06 onwards) got the 1.6HDi 92bhp. But no picasso was available with the 110bhp HDis.

Not sure how eaqsy that would be to fit though!

I think you can get it re-assessed so the tax might come down.

My C5 110HDI is £125 a year to tax, so a picasso HDi should be the same.

What is the 1.8i tax? around £180?

i think the 1.4 would be more involved that a larger lump, as it being a TUD it takes a diferent box, then probably dosent stop there,

i do know some of the lager engines in HDI form are in the lower TAX bracket, as its down to fuel consumption figures from the factory,

the disc on this Piscaso shows £128 quid for 6 months, thats more than my old R reg banger of a 1.9TD,

i thought the newer they get the less you pay (petrol or diesel),

so long as they aint gas guzlers

Ive just done a Xantia 1800 8v 1997 P conversion to XUD TD

The top mount and bottom mount were the same, but the gearbox mount was slightly different, luckily they are bolted - the engine harness simply plugged in on the nearside inner wing, however, the speed sensor on the engine harness from the earlyer car was in a different place so I had to re wire that in..

Drive shafts were the same, but the passenger one needed the DERV innver CV joint putting on which fitted the Petrol Shaft...

Dooing an HDi would be quite hard, you'd need the transponder pickup, BODY computer and ECU for that part to work, as the transponder pickup on the ignition barrell goes via the body computer to unlock the ECU, may be best spening an extra 150 quid getting the ECU unlocked... you wont need any wiring into the cabin then...

Also the cheap tax wount take effect untill you went through an engineers report, and officially got the car Log book changed wit the DVLA, you'll then need an Engineers report, and a DVLA inspection.. Its not a simple case of engine in and cheap tax! .. unfortunally..

The Picasso was fitted with the 1.6HDI 110. My Dad used to have one!
The Pic only ever used the BE gearboxes, not the ML range.
Currently driving a 2004 C5 VTR (old shape) and an Electric Kia Soul. Sorry but the electric one is my favourite!
Formerly Hyundai Genesis 3.8 V6, 2 x Kia Optima, 2 x C5, Xsara and Saxo.

The 2.0 HDi would surely be the easyiest to fit, plus they are probably the easiest to find too.

Even if you were to put in a 1.4HDi, you wouldnt get the cheap £30 a year as with such a heavy body and no other eco features the cars C02 would be higher than 120.

So if you did a 2.0 and got it assessed then you should be able to get the normal picasso HDI tax which is £125 a year.

Not to mention 45MPG instead of low 30s with a 1.8i.

I didnt know the 110 1.6 was available, but still, that will be an expensive lump to get hold of and is more complex than the 2.0 8v.

Was the 110 picasso FAP equipped?
