Anti sink sphere

Post by davewithington »

Just been having a look at the rock hard ride on Mike from Stoke's '97 non-hydractive 1.9TD.

The ride was really hard - like riding with the suspension in high, but the rear spheres felt OK, and the previous owner replaced them a couple of years ago. Changed the fronts, there is some improvement, but not perfect.

Mike doesn't really want to buy every sphere if he can help it.

The anti sink sphere looks like it's been under the sea for a while, can this have an effect on the rear ride?

Oh, I've sprayed both height correctors with WD, and worked the lever a few times, together with a session of Citrobics, and everything rises and falls as it should. Accumulator tick rate is about 11-12 seconds.

Comments please gents.

I'm not sure if the so called Anti-Sink sphere does anything more than act as an accumulator for brakes and anti-sink! Which only leaves the corner spheres and the front accumulator. I understand that the front accumulator is a reserve for brakes and steering, so! Perhaps one of the rear corner spheres has 'popped'. If it were mine I would change the two rear corner spheres... £21.50 + Vat or £26.00 + Vat, fitted at Pleiade.

With a tick rate of 11-12 seconds, sounds like the main accumulator is flat.

A healthy one should have an interval of 30 secs or more between ticks.

I'd change that first, then maybe investigate the corner spheres if that does not rectify the problem.

I suppose that they didn't supply hydractive spheres in error? I can't really see that it could be anything other than the spheres, assuming that the ride height is correct. How many miles has it done in those couple of years?
