Drove down to Burgundy a few days ago. Through France the temperature was 30 to 37 degrees. The car ran perfectly for hours on the Autoroute at 135 kph on the cruise control, with just a 10 minute break every couple of hours. Water temperature around 100 and oil temperature pushing 120 at times (a full load of luggage and 100kg of oak boards on the roofrack so not the most economical run).
When we got off the the Autoroute at our destination however, the car idled perfectly at the toll booth, but when we pulled away it had almost no power and more or less died if the throttle was exercised, it was like this for a couple of km into town. No warning lights.
Next morning and since, it has been running perfectly again. There were no faults logged in the engine ECU.
It felt like fuel starvation, even vapour-lock, but it has behaved since then (it has been just as hot).

Xantia V6 feeling the heat?

Sounds like vapourisation doesn't it? Always been a concern of mine those underbonnet temps. Must affect some leccy components like coils etc. Don't suppose fuel octane would make any difference?
Pedestrians have suggested my car is overheating...............I assure them it is just the fans switching on and moving some heat their way

I had a similar thing on our Xantia V6.
Turned out to be that the green temperature sensor was giving a false reading though.
This was evident as when accelerating the car was hesitating and cutting out and often wouldn't start again. It was also misfiring.
Changing that sensor though has made an unbelievable difference to the car though.
Easily the best £20 I've ever spent on a car. Only took 10 minutes to fit too.
David.

Had it on some old plugs, some of them just weren't getting the power to fire at idle.
Also it did similar when the coils had water in them
Think the ECU might have been retarding the ignition aswell as some plugs not firing but didn't have Lexia to check

Love my black v6 xant - only one with cream coloured leather too!

I think the autobox ecu can control the engines ecu, maybe the gearbox oil was a bit hot and it told it to hold off for a bit.
It infuriates me to be wrong when I know I'm right
